Craig Allison

The Carefree Gardener

Raiding the refrigerator as a child sparked Craig’s lifelong love of gardening.

“I would take bell peppers, tomatoes and watermelons to plant their seeds,” he explains. “I was interested in how things grew.”

Once he understood the science, Craig focused on the art, creating living pieces of architecture.

With more than 35 years of experience, Craig Allison is among the Southwest’s most respected landscape architects. Craig has taught at Arizona State University’s School of Landscape Architecture and the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix, Arizona. He has designed and constructed thousands of high-end projects in California, Nevada, Arizona, and Michigan.

Craig handles projects of all sizes-from small patios to multiple acres. While it’s tough to pick a favorite, some projects stand out in Craig’s mind. Working on the La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California as a young gardener, making celebrity homes in California and Arizona even more beautiful, and partnering with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) to create dream homes.

Now, Craig focuses on helping those in need. His weekly National TV show, The Carefree Gardener provides free landscape makeovers to deserving homeowners.

“They may be elderly, financially strapped or dealing with disabilities.” Craig says. “I want to ease their burden by designing and building a beautiful, peaceful landscape.”

Three decades of experience led to regular segments on Arizona TV shows.  Garden Sense from the DIY Network called on Craig to serve as landscape architect for three of their shows. Craig’s syndicated columns could be found   in Arizona, California, and Nevada newspapers.
